One of my favourite part of my #AuthorTakeOver is the Q&A with the Authors! And this one is fun 🙂
Ok, you know the drill “serious” questions!
- Ok, so where is your favourite place to write?
I have my writing nook (pic attached) where everything I need is to hand – including my Murder Map and the location of the series – Staffordshire (though I have used made-up names for the most part). I also like writing in the garden when it’s nice (and quite) outside and finally – my couch. I sometimes have the tv low in the background.
I love this office! How awesome to see this every day!! I use to live in Staffordshire too!
- Is there anything at all that you share Dead Wrong, that isn’t in the blurb?
Tough one, as I don’t want to give anything away. But I can share that alongside the main case, there is a thread that sees one of the main players finding themselves in a bit of bother… that could be deadly. Does that work? Ha haha
Oh such a tease!! Ok, well I best everyone best go and read it!
- I would love to know who inspired you most in your life?
I’ve been inspired by many people in my life. Teachers who told me I wouldn’t go far. Bullies who made me feel like I had nothing to offer. My father who instilled a determined and stubborn nature to work hard. My friends – who make me smile every day. Other authors who have encouraged me every step of the way. Probation and police colleagues who cheer me on. Bloggers and readers who make me feel I have something to offer in my writing. I can’t name just one person as there has been so many.
- Do you think you have a writing Kryptonite?
I think I have a few – self-doubt is a biggie. I don’t think anyone will be interested in my books – readers, my publisher, reviewers so it can be a struggle to motivate myself tto continue writing. Social media is probably second on my list and also linked to my self doubt as sometimes reviewers feel it is really important to tag me in reviews where they have basically said my book is sh*t. LOL!
I can safely say your books are far from sh*t!!!!!!
- So when you write do you listen to any music? If so, who gets you going? (oh-er)
I actually don’t listen to music when I am writing. If I need something to motivate me and get my ass (or arse if you prefer) in the chair – it’s always Mr Brightside by The Killers. I am also partial to a bit of AC/DC… my music preference are quite eclectic – so if something makes me smile or really grabs my attention – I’ll listen!
I know a few people who will love this song, including me!
Ok, we are now moving on to some “fun” questions
- If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?
I am still learning a lot about my characters – I don’t have their lives mapped out and often learn new aspects of their personalities as I am writing. Saying that, I’d love to spend more time with DS Nathan Wright. I think he is finding it tough moving from DC and being a good friend of Maggie’s to DS and being her boss. I think Nathan and I would have a great time in a pub – downing a few beverages, having a laugh and learning what makes each of us tick. He is a thinker, much like me.
Oh yay to Nathan, I might have to join in with you!
- But, if you could add yourself into your book, would you be a heroine or villainous? What would you be like and what would you name yourself?
I would definitely want to be the villain – and a total badass psychopath to boot. My killer name? Femme Fatale – ha ha ha – my victims would be anyone who has pissed me off. Good thing I never thought about this question, eh? (Translation: I think about it all the time!)
Now this is my femme fatale idea for you 😉
- What is the funniest typo you’ve ever written?
Not really a typo but when Dead Inside was being edited, I had to send an email to my editor and ask him to change all the ‘asses to arses and assholes to arseholes’. Being Canadian, I have to remember the British terms – though I do know a lot of Brits who say asshole … a few early reviewers pointed out that it was wrong! Ha ha ha
This is how I love saying asshole
- Ok, the last question, tell us about a unique or quirky habit of yours.
I’m not sure if it is unique or quirky but I talk to myself, a lot! I used to talk to my dog Buster until he passed 2 years ago. Whole conversations. Answering too. It helps me get rid of the cobwebs…or maybe I am just a weirdo!
Thank you so much Noelle, it’s been fab getting to know you a bit more! ❤?
Until next time xxx
