She opens her eyes and struggles to make out the dark room around her. One thing she knows instantly – her wrists are bound and she’s tied to a chair, unable to move. As she screams for help, she hears footsteps outside. He’s coming…

Fifteen-year-old Lindy Rosen has been having nightmares for weeks, waking in a panic, screaming that there’s a man in her room watching her sleep. Her parents assumed it was her overactive imagination, but when one morning they find Lindy missing from her bedroom, they’re not so sure. Detective Jenna Alton is called in to investigate.

Within hours of the schoolgirl going missing, the kidnapper reaches out to Jenna with a video of Lindy bound and tied to a chair, crying to be set free. And a simple message – you’ve got 24 hours to find her or I kill her.

Jenna’s team work around the clock to try to find Lindy before the deadline, but time runs out, and Jenna receives a devastating message. The killer has made good on his promise. He’s playing a dangerous game. And no one knows what his next move will be.

But just two days later, one of Lindy’s school friends is taken in the middle of the night and the countdown begins again.

My Review

Where do I start? How much I love Alton and Kane? How this is one intense journey into darkness? That no matter what there are shocks galore? Why is Black Rock Falls attracting all the crazies?!

I can not believe I am on the 6th book in this series and it has not failed me ever! Each book is so intense, and I do fill sorry for the residents of Black Rock Falls. As much as I want to go there nothing ever good comes out of it!! If you have not read the previous five books, STOP ✋🏼 what you are doing and please for the love of god go and read them.

So what is happening now? This time we are a few short weeks after the events from the last book and a girl has been kidnapped. Alton receives a video giving her six hours to find the missing girl or else……

From the opening chapters, you know this will be a difficult read, made even harder when you know its young teenage girls being targeted. Makes me want to give my mini-me an extra squish

I was on tenterhooks throughout Whispers in the dark as I could not figure out how these girls were being taken…I mean I know how but how were they being manipulated. And then to live their somewhat final moments in some cases broke my heart. The fear that the characters felt was palpable and always there is the race against time element, more so in this case because they have been given a time frame to solve the case literally!

How Ms Hood can write so much darkness just blows me away. She just does it so well and then she flips it over with the wealth of love that the team have for each other. How they are a unit and none of it is cheesy. She tries to balance the good vs the bad. Plus I was so happy to see developments with Alton and Kane. What developments…well read it yourself!

Whispers in the dark is a breakneck speed of a journey and overall it is such an addictive and thrilling series that I am so glad I discovered. I do not think I will ever get bored of this series (please don’t stop writing them!) as each book both Alton and Kane are finding their ground a bit more. Fighting back against their past more and learning to deal with the present. I do hope soon, somehow the past meets the present.

Until next time xxx

I’ve always had a wicked sense of humor, and was the kid who told the ghost stories around the campfire.
I am lucky to have family all over the world and have spent wonderful vacations in many countries. I love the rugged beauty of Montana and can’t wait to return.
I use the memories from my travels to enhance my stories.

My interest in the development of forensic science to solve crime goes back many years. It was one subject I enjoyed studying and with the constant advances, it never gets boring.
