I am really excited about this Q&A, after spending the last week, reading, thinking and talking about DI Robyn Carter, we finally get to meet her. You never know she may even let a couple of things slip……..
Hi Robyn, Thanks for dropping by today, how are you doing?
Hi Zoe. I don’t get out a lot so it’s been nice to drop by and chat. Sorry about bringing Duke, along. I’m looking after Ross’s dog while has a few days off with his wife and you know how Duke hates to be left alone.
Ah no worries, Duke is always welcome, I am surprised you could get him away from Ross! How’s your day been so far?
Well, we didn’t get lost coming here, which was a start and Duke hasn’t peed on your carpet yet, so it’s going well so far
Haha Well, that is a great start! Hopefully, we can keep it going!! Let us start with something easy, if you had to describe yourself in 3 words, what would you say?
Driven. I can’t think of any other words to describe me.
Yeah I can definitely agree to that and loyal! So what was it that made you want to become a DI?
I fell into policing. Like many young people, I had no real idea of what I wanted to do with my life. I saw an ad and applied to be a police officer and within days I knew it was the right career path for me. I didn’t envisage promotion at the time. I just wanted results and with them came kudos and a step up the ladder. The police force is a huge part of my life now… it’s my family.
I hear that alot about the Police force, it makes me want to join, but not sure I could take that step from behind my desk! When you do catch a break and some time off, how do you like to spend it?
I’ll take off to the Peak District. It’s beautiful up there and you get a real sense of getting way form it all. I recently went with John Shearer, from work. We’ve been getting on better since the last investigation. Turns out he’s not such a bad sort after all, and we both like the grand outdoors.
That sounds lush! And I love that you and Shearer are becoming friends! Now that Carol has taken what I hope is a short break from writing stories of thrilling but terrifying situations she puts you in, how is life?
I’ve mostly been focusing on training. I took part in the local Ironman event last year and several marathons. Fitness has always been my thing. Training gives me focus and without it, I am unable to function. Of course, I have been working all this while on other investigations but since The Chosen Ones, there haven’t been any other major murder enquiries – thank goodness!
I’ve also been on a bit of a personal mission, with Ross’s help. Between you and me, I didn’t believe Hassan when he visited me and told me about Davies. I’m convinced my fiancé is still out there somewhere and for whatever reason, is remaining hidden – through his own will or against I, I don’t know but I can’t shake the feeling Hassan was deliberately feeding me a line to crush my hopes. I won’t and can’t rest until I know what really happened to him and I’m getting closer to an answer.
OMG!!!!!!!!!! This is like a HUGE bombshell, I hope Carol decides to help you with this story – eek!!
A couple of fun questions before you have to go, If you could have one talent, what would it be and why?
To be able to sing then I’d be able to join in with my favourite songs on the radio without making my work colleagues or cousin wince at my vocals.
That is quite a popular choice!! What is your favourite song and why?
Watching the Detectives by Elvis Costello It reminds me of Davies lying in bed, watching me get ready for work. It became a sort of signature tune before I went off each day. Ironic really, as it’s actually about a crime fiction lover. The person Elvis Costello is singing about is someone who’d rather lie around all day and watch detective shows on TV than hang out with him. Davies knew that of course, but it makes me smile whenever I hear it and I can still see him lying back against the pillows, grinning as he sang. I hope, wherever he is, he remembers it too.
This is way way cute! I love this! Thank you for sharing it! Right, so it’s Halloween, who are you?
I own a black cat, so I suppose I’d have to be a witch, although I’d aim for something along the lines of the Scarlett Witch, a fictional superhero, her abilities include telekinesis, energy manipulation, and some form of neuroelectric interfacing that allows her to both read thoughts and also give her targets waking nightmares. She uses her powers for good. They’d be pretty useful in my line of work!
Yeah, I can see this, she is so badass! Ok, sadly it’s the final question! Do you have a favourite joke?
I don’t but Ross, with his puerile sense of humour has plenty of them, like this one:
Did you hear about the man who stole a calendar?
He got 12 months
Yes!! I love this joke! It is so funny! I now have a new joke to tell people!
Thank you so much, Robyn, for taking the time to talk to me and dropping bombshells. I hope we hear from you again soon!
Until next time xxx

Hahahhaah that joke was really funny. I hadn’t heard it.
Brilliant interview. And that costume add a few knives and magic, and that could be me…. In my dreams / fantasies. ??
I loved the interview sooooo much. Robyn was really neat
