Back again with some more movies I have been watching in the last week and a bit, some are carried over from last week but I had a busy post so brought them forward with me.
Lets see if there will be anything for your weekend watching or if you have seen them before let me know what you think.
Plot
Louis Creed, his wife Rachel, and their two children, Gage and Ellie, move to a rural home where they are welcomed and enlightened about the eerie ‘Pet Sematary’ located nearby. After the tragedy of their cat being killed by a truck, Louis resorts to burying it in the mysterious pet cemetery, which is definitely not as it seems, as it proves to the Creeds that sometimes, dead is better.
I can see why Stephen King said this was the only adaptation of his film to scare him, I mean I wasn’t scare but oh my days it did make me *shudder* It so much darker than the original film, yes they have changed QUITE a lot but the new ending, jeez that is enough to give you nightmares.
For a converted King book, this is a short film, so everything ramps up quickly, you have all the original famous scenes, Church the cat getting run over and being buried, the scene where Gage runs out into the road……but that is where the film changes and for want of a better word..” swerves” in a different direction. If you forget that this is based on a book it is actually a pretty good twist on things, the dark forest, the cover of the night where things literally go bump in the night.
I always try to forget the story of Rachel and her sister, but this time, well this time they took a new take on the story, same outcome but this time, *gulp* this time they introduced a dumb waiter into it – man I frigging hate those things. In horror films you know they are one of the things that are going to cause you problems, funny out inanimate objects can cause more chills than the ghosts!!
I quite enjoyed this, fast paced horror, enough o make you wince in places and leaving feeling absolutely cold to the core at the end.

Plot
The free-spirited UglyDolls confront what it means to be different, struggle with their desire to be loved, and ultimately discover that you don’t have to be perfect to be amazing because who you truly are is what matters most.
I watched this one with my mini me. It was quite cute little story, to tell everyone that you don’t have to be perfect to be loved.
Moxy is the MC and she dreams of having a human cuddling her at night, she and her friends leave Uglyville to travel through a tube to the institute for Perfection. Here the dolls are well…perfect!
It’s not one of the best-animated films, but it’s easy to watch and it does have some laughs along the way. They do try to home in one the message quite a lot in here so for an adult can detract from the film. You have your typical villain, a lot of fun songs which I found I was tapping too and it made mini-me cry (so like her mum) because she got upset with how the dolls were being treated, so something hit home for her. I must admit I did love the “mean girls” of the film because they were a little bit happy and provided a few laughs.
It’s not the worse animation, but it is still a cute fun pact film and as I said it really homes in that you do not have to be perfect to be beautiful and to always fight for your dreams.
Main Cast (well some of them!)
Plot
When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.
Once you get past Daniel Craig’s dodgy Texan accent this film is an absolute blast. I really enjoyed this film! And who would have thought that Chris Evans’ wearing a nice cream cable jumper would make me like him 😉
The story is a simple one, there has been a death, we meet the family who are interviewed and a nurse who can not lie…no seriously she can’t lie if she does well she is sick everywhere! Everyone has a reason to kill him and the events from the night of the murder unfold slowly. We find out quite early on from one point of view what happened that night, but is it the true story?
It did remind me of an Agatha Christie type story, having the family in a room and each being accused of murder, finding out tidbits of the story, but mainly we follow the story of Marta, the nurse and Benoit Blanc, which is quite comical at times.
This did not feel like 2 hours to me, it flew by, it was over before I knew it. I was laughing at the bitchiness of the family, what a load of Queens, Each person had a role and they all played it well, it truly was some awesome acting!
I would love to see a series on Blanc! He is so fascinating to watch and he does remind me of my favourite Belgium detective. Definitely a fun one to watch!

Plot
Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector, and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.
This was a family movie that mini-me chose and it was such a lovely tale! Miguel loves music but due to a past event with his grand-papie music is banned from the family household and they all follow the line of shoemaking. However, it is time for the Day of the Dead festival and he has a way in, a way to meet his family and to get their blessing to play music again and bring joy. I loved meeting Hector, a soul/skeleton who was running out of time as he was being forgotten. Once forgotten you leave the place and disappear. They work together and it is a fun friendship to see blossom. Yet, you know there is a time limit for these two because if Miguel doesn’t get back by dawn, well let us just say he has to hurry!
I loved how the Land of the Dead is so vivid, bright and colourful, it is a party place until they move on. It was interesting to learn more about the Mexican celebration and their beliefs, and what this festival represents and means. I have always said I would love to go to the festival and celebrate the lives.
Not going to lie, I cried and so did mini-me, it was such a beautiful story and when you learn the truth behind what caused the ban, well it was so heartbreaking. Bit “dark” for a Pixar film too! It is definitely a cut above the rest of some the newer films and I hardly heard anything about this when it came out. It is a truly heartwarming and magical story, can not recommend this one enough.

Plot
Alita is a creation from an age of despair. Found by the mysterious Dr. Ido while trolling for cyborg parts, Alita becomes a lethal, dangerous being. She cannot remember who she is, or where she came from. But to Dr. Ido, the truth is all too clear. She is the one being who can break the cycle of death and destruction left behind from Tiphares. But to accomplish her true purpose, she must fight and kill. And that is where Alita’s true significance comes to bear. She is an angel from heaven. She is an angel of death.
Wow! What a film! I love the fact we have CGI and real actors mixed together. It might seem offputting at first, but once you start watching I was fascinated by Alita and her story. When she is found she does not know who she is what she is doing in Ido’s house. Ido rescued her from a junk yard and has bought her back to life. We have a few different storylines going on, we have bounty hunters, self-discovery, love and the all present world above them Tiphares.
The only way you can get to their eden of Tiphares is if you compete in a game and win. This game is like Nascar but with people racing around at some blinking speed on wheels, racing as their lives depended on it, because you know….it does!
The fighting in this film was just epic! I was blown away by it, with the mixture of CGI again it just added such an extra element to the fighting. They are just choreographed perfectly, the movement, the action, it was spot on, Alita is just badass. Ed Skrein was just comical and I loved his scenes.
As always with these types of films, love does not always prevail, it makes people make silly decisions and it’s no different here! I may or may not (definitely was!) shouting at the TV at one decision at the end, I just hope there will be a second film to rectify these mistakes. And THAT cameo was just brilliant! I really need a second film.
I have not read the manga comics so this was a new story to me, but the concept was brilliant and the directors, from what I can tell, have done it such a great justice (Plus I do love a good James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez film). The town was just breathtaking when you took in the sights around you, the visuals just have blown everything out of the water for me. It all just worked.
I definitely recommend this one!
Main Cast
Other films watched :-
The Predator – no film will be a match on Arnie’s film but they did make a reference to it. New Predators, attacking other predators, combining with humans, and this time they are in our world, in our streets. They evolved and it’s just a mess of violence. Was ok to watch, lost a bit of interest in it but this series has been literally done to death now, think it’s time to give it up.
And that is another week of movies done! Hope you enjoyed this. Have you watched any of these? Agree/disagree with my comments, would love to hear from you!
Until next time xxx
