When you read this book, you will think you know every twist in the tale.
Maria is on trial for attempted murder.
She has confessed to the crime and wanted her husband dead.
Lottie is on the jury, trying to decide her fate.
She embarks on an illicit affair with a stranger, and her husband can never find out.
You will think you know who is guilty and who is innocent.
You will be wrong.
What a book! What an absolute blinder of a book! I was completely hooked on this audiobook and it got to the stage where I just had to read the last 20% until late in the early hours of the morning just to find out the outcome.
This book is everything I love about courtroom thrillers. It was exciting! We saw the drama unfold from not only the accused, in past and present but the jury too, more specifically Lottie.
I couldn’t help but fall in love with Lottie and I began to see parallels between her and Marie….how wrong that was! But not at the same time.
There were other jurors who stood out, but I don’t want to talk about them. All the jurors had their own personalities, nice or not, and it was fascinating to hear them deliberate and see the trial pan out through their eyes as well as Marie’s.
This book, quite frankly is just simply amazing!! I loved every detail of it. The horror and heartache, the manipulation, the torture, I was there. That is down to a fantastic novel and an amazing narrator. The narrator brought everyone to life. I felt panic and fear. Even those sizzling moments….. Ahem, it just completely worked for me and I am so glad I got the chance to listen /read it at last.
This book will suck you in straight away. I knew I was hooked from the second Marie faints in the opening chapter. That one sentence and reaction that was said had me gasping and knowing this book was going to eat me alive. I was hooked. The author has created a believable case, a trial not to be missed, and two lead women you support no matter what, and it does make you question how guilty they really are because it’s all just a matter of degrees…
Until the next time xxx.
