The chilling new psychological thriller from the #1 bestselling author of I Am Watching You.
It was their darkest secret. Three schoolgirls made a promise – to take the horrible truth of what they did to the grave.
Thirty years later, Beth and Sally have tried to put the trauma behind them. Though Carol has distanced herself from her former friends, the three are adamant that the truth must never come to light, even if the memory still haunts them.
But when some shocking news threatens to unearth their dark secret, Beth enlists the help of private investigator Matthew Hill to help her and Sally reconnect with estranged Carol – before the terrible act they committed as teenagers is revealed.
Beth wishes she could take back the vow they made.
But somebody is watching and will stop at nothing to ensure the secret stays buried. Now, with her beloved family in peril, can Beth still keep the promise?
I needed a book to give me some mojo for reading again and this book has given me some sparkle.
When you find out what the promise is, well it was quite emotional and the outlook the girls had made it sound so sinister but it wasn’t. It was just heartbreaking and incredibly sad. I mean they were just kids! Once we saw the other side of that day, we saw the real story that was sinister and just as intense and emotional.
I mean jeez what a book. I thought it was such a great read. It was such a sad tale of how actions when you are a kid can shape your life. I lost my heart to Beth, Carol, and Sally. I didn’t know how this story would play out and I didn’t expect this…
It’s hard to review this book without giving anything away. But it’s a book that just keeps on giving. Lies and secrets cause a lot of destruction and mental health breakdowns, and just as you think you have a clear path, more is exposed. The hotel room scene with Beth and Carol, well it just had been gasping and my hand was at my mouth in shock.
I was listening to this as I was driving home, and diversion and road closures meant I had plenty of time to finish it. I loved the narrators and the guy who narrated Matthew was a dream to listen to. He sounded like Richard Armitage, but much more dreamy. I do wish we had more from Matthew and more of his sleuthing, but the story wasn’t about him.
These women will stay with me for a long while.
Until the next time xxx
