Here comes the bride ... but how long can she hide?
When Kitty Clayton flees her wedding with no money, no bank card and no phone, her life seems worryingly futureless. All she knows is, she'd rather sleep on the streets than go back home to cheating Ethan.
After picking her up hitch-hiking, widowed children's author Jack Duffy takes Kitty under his wing, looking out for her until she gets back on her feet. And it's not long before the two grow close...
But with Jack struggling to recover from the guilt he feels over his wife's death and Kitty refusing to face up to the problems she's running away from at home, will the two ever manage to share a happily ever after?
A heart-warming novel about love and new beginnings, you won't be able to put it down!
This audiobook was addictive for sure! Even so, the mini-me caught the last couple of hours and wanted to know what was going to happen!
I loved the growth of Kitty in the story. The story was quite dark in places and I wanted to jump in and give Ethan a slap or two. But with all the shocks that happened, I felt there could have been a bit more. There was a huge shock and it was quite literally life-changing but I felt that it wasn’t given enough time to work through. It was an odd twist too and then I felt it was brushed over a bit too quickly. I would have wanted to spend a bit more time focused on it and to see Kitty work it through a bit more, as I say it was a bombshell!
Kitty was abused by two too many people and when we meet her, she is running from her wedding day, and we have no idea why. And the manipulation that went with it was uncomfortable to watch. I did gasp a few times and Kitty had chains to break. But was she replacing one cage for another when she met Jack?
Jack is broken and running away from his own loss. He has his demons to face, so when Kitty and he meet, two souls explode as they try to navigate through life.
It was such a sweet and touching story. I loved watching their love grow. It was like chicken soup for your soul. I do have to admit though, that I had to pause it at one point as Kitty discusses losing her dad, and how she’s worried she will forget things about him. I had to admit that got me. I feel the same way. Some years on, and I can just about hear my dad’s voice in my head but it’s fading. And although I will never forget him, her fear, her worry of forgetting her dad, it’s mine. Every day and that got me. It made me think.
I did adore this story. I am glad I met Kitty and Jack and I am glad I found a book to watch two people grow.
Until the next time xxx
