The Golden Couple is the next electrifying novel from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, the #1 New York Times bestselling author duo behind You Are Not Alone, An Anonymous Girl, and The Wife Between Us.
If Avery Chambers can’t fix you in 10 sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. Her successes are phenomenal--she helps people overcome everything from domineering parents to assault--and almost absorb the emptiness she sometimes feels since her husband’s death.
Marissa and Mathew Bishop seem like the golden couple--until Marissa cheats. She wants to repair things, both because she loves her husband and for the sake of their 8-year-old son. After a friend forwards an article about Avery, Marissa takes a chance on this maverick therapist, who lost her license due to controversial methods.
When the Bishops glide through Avery’s door and Marissa reveals her infidelity, all three are set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger.
I read this book but I also bought the audiobook because I knew that when I started it I would need to keep going and I did, right through my workdays.
It was a fresh take on couples going to see a therapist that is for sure!! Avery is not a conventional therapist, well, in fact, she has no license due to her ways and she likes to observe and part take in the lives of her client and in particular this Golden Couple, Marissa and Matthew.
I had no idea where this book was going or what it was about, I skimmed the blurb, so I was on a proper adventure with this book. How involved would this get? Why were we reminded constantly of Marissa’s and Matthew’s past, what relevance did that have on the present? And how is Avery caught up in the middle? I had so many questions throughout and it wasn’t until near the end it all became clear, and what a humdinger it was!
The narrators of the book did a fabulous job, I completely believed they were Marissa and Avery. I was as confused as Marissa when the weird things were happening and with Avery when she was trying to figure out the heck was going on. There are plenty of shocks in this book, all slowly revealed during the book, completely catching you unawares and that made it for riveting reading! We don’t just have the main characters there are so many other characters causing problems, I mean Polly, anyone!
I have no idea which author wrote which bit, it just all blended so well. Not sure if they took each character but it was seamless and just how you want it to be for a book!!!
Definitely a great book that kept me entertained throughout the day, who doesn’t love a book where you can’t trust anyone!
Until next time xxx
Thank you so much to Anne from Random Things Tours for the tour invite and the authors for a copy of the book in return for my honest and unbiased review
