Camp Deathe is now a great place to spend the summer. Ritchie soon finds a group of outsiders like himself. Teenagers who ignore the organised activities, and bunk off in the old abandoned cabins deep in the woods. The cabins that have a history.
The campfire monster stories were meant to just scare them. Nobody expected them to come true. Then one of the teenagers disappears in the middle of the night.
Something is watching them. It hides in the woods and hunts at night.
Ritchie will have to uncover the secrets of the camp, and understand his own problems in order to survive.
My first book by Jim and what an introduction to his writing and storytelling. I love this idea of reintroducing Point Horror with a modern-day feel. This book gets that to a T!!
As soon as I think of a summer camp, straight away Friday the 13th or American Horror Story comes to my head. This book is nowhere near as dark and messed up, but you get the picture. Things really aren’t going to end well for some people.
Richie is our main character, he is endearing and so naive, but it made you root for him. You want him to win the girl, you want him to escape the hell unscathed. You basically don’t want anything to go wrong. But being Camp Deathe, renamed Camp Death, well there is no guarantee! Even though we have the norm with dinner with the parents, daily activities, there is an undercurrent that something is not quite right, something well off.
I did love the twists and turns of this book and it’s not until they are upon you even realise that they were twists to consider! It was amazing to have some jaw-dropping moments! I had inklings, about one thing but NOTHING could prepare me for what actually followed. It reminded me of a film, but I can’t tell you what film. When you read it, you might get it, but think of films where there are woods and cabins ? It was a book I got sucked into straight away and loved the nostalgic feeling when reading this. You have some light relief, but don’t let that fool you!! Jim’s mind is dark and he will throw a spanner in the works.
I can’t wait to read the next instalment of this new series by Question Mark Horror (and I don’t mean my book!) because you just don’t know what delicious slice you are going to get next. If this book is anything to go by I know we are in for a treat!!
Until next time xxx
