Psychopaths can take root in the unlikeliest soil…
DC Maggie Jamieson crosses paths once again with Probation Officer Lucy Sherwood when a domestic violence survivor stumbles into her new refuge, unable to speak, desperate for help.
Then another case hits Maggie’s desk. A young man has been murdered, and a curious constellation of black dots has been inked onto his cheek.
That’s when DCI Hastings goes missing and Maggie uncovers a shocking connection that turns the case on its head.
Every family may hide secrets, but not every family buries them…
Can you actually Adam and Eve it! We are back with Maggie and it is BOOK 4!! Book 4! Wow! It has been an adventure so far and it is no different here. This story is of a slower pace but the murders are no less vicious and the killer (or killers) are way more cold, aloof and quite simply terrifying!
Kate is away, Lucy is opening her haven with her first woman through the doors and Maggie’s boss has gone missing. Everything is happening all at once. However, it is more controlled. Yes, we are against the clock but things are treated carefully when it is the boss involved. I will admit when I was reading about DCI Hastings, there was only one man in my head. I mean it goes without saying at the moment!!!!
I do love a book that has multiple storylines going on because you never quite have that relief. Whilst you have Maggie, Nathan and Kat following the clues for the missing persons but at the same time, Lucy is struggling to help her first lady through the haven.
Even though we are guided through the book at a leisurely pace, that ending is still explosive! It is shocking and it is cold and wow! That is a guttural punch, and it will be interesting to see the fallout with this! And then once you think you are ok, everything semi tied up….six weeks later happens!!!!!!!!! Now I am chomping at the bit for book 5!!!!
I have loved Noelle’s writing since the very beginning. She has created these ballsy women, who have some serious problems. None of them shies away from their issues and they are respected. Well, I respect them! Plus to see their softer more personal sides come out is always a treat. I mean who does not love a bit of flirtatious banter!
I look forward to my next outing with Maggie and the team and equally dread what is in store for them next.
Until next time xxx
