God how is it May already!! So a new month and new offerings, I make it sound so sacrificial! I have to say I absolutely love this post because I love all the comments from you all and it is so passionate too!!! Thank you to everyone who takes the time to comment!
So from last week, I was told to “chuck the lot” by quite a few of you! Which I found HILARIOUS! So what did I do………
I CHUCKED THE LOT!
However, due to the passion of one lovely blogger Davida, I did decide to bring back one book to try and read!
Going to try a new format too to save me some uploading time! (Formatting sucks but anyway!)
An Abundance of Katherines by John Green
Katherine V thought boys were gross
Katherine X just wanted to be friends
Katherine XVIII dumped him in an e-mailK-19 broke his heart
When it comes to relationships, Colin Singleton's type happens to be girls named Katherine. And when it comes to girls named Katherine, Colin is always getting dumped. Nineteen times, to be exact.
On a road trip miles from home, this anagram-happy, washed-up child prodigy has ten thousand dollars in his pocket, a bloodthirsty feral hog on his trail, and an overweight, Judge Judy-loving best friend riding shotgun--but no Katherines. Colin is on a mission to prove The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, which he hopes will predict the future of any relationship, avenge Dumpees everywhere, and finally win him the girl.
Love, friendship, and a dead Austro-Hungarian archduke add up to surprising and heart-changing conclusions in this ingeniously layered comic novel about reinventing oneself.
So I quite liked the funky cover for this one, but is it enough to keep it?

The Nearly-Weds by Jane Costello
What's the worst thing that could happen to a blushing bride? To somebody warm, loving, and fun - like Zoe Moore? When she finds herself jilted at the altar by her fiancé Jason, Zoe knows she doesn't deserve this heartache and humiliation. Unable to face the pitying faces of her friends and family, Zoe takes drastic action: she flees to America. Specifically, to Boston, where she takes up a post as nanny to five-year-old Ruby Miller and her little brother Samuel.Ruby and Samuel have lost their mother in an accident. They may as well have lost their father, too, for Ryan Miller is so wrapped-up in his grief that he barely notices his two attention-starved children. As Zoe sets about tidying up Ruby and Sam's home, and injecting some fun back into their lives, she finds herself gaining their trust and love. At the same time, Zoe grows more and more frustrated with Ryan's bullying behaviour, and his shameful neglect. Whatever happened to the loving man she keeps hearing about from his neighbours? Zoe can't find any sign of him.
The only thing saving Zoe from despair is the small, close-knit group of British nannies who quickly befriend her. There's boisterous Trudie, man-mad but hiding a painful secret; Sloanie traveller Amber, who sports a Buddhist tattoo that, unbeknownst to her, reads 'Batteries Not Included'. And chilly, tight-lipped Felicity, whose cut-glass voice gives little away. But will these new friends be able to save Zoe, when she discovers that the past isn't all that easy to escape, no matter how far you go?
Come on this one has Zoe as the main character, surely I should keep it for that?! lol. It does sound quite cute!

The Time of Our Lives by Jane Costello
Imogen and her friends have had their fill of budget holidays, cattle-class flights and 6 a.m. offensives for a space by the pool.So when one of the group wins a VIP holiday at Barcelona's hippest new hotel, they plan to sip champagne with the jet set, party with the glitterati and switch off in surroundings of unapologetic luxury. But as they mingle with movie stars, mafia bosses and millionaires, it becomes clear - with riotous consequences - that even in the most glamorous of locations, things can go wrong. Very wrong . . .Hilarious and heart-warming by turns, The Time of Our Lives is Jane Costello at her very best. - See more at: http://books.simonandschuster.co.uk/T...
Another offering for you from Jane, what do we think of this one?!
So over to you… stay or go?
The Blade Itself (The First Law, #1) by Joe Abercrombie
Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he’s on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian – leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies.
Nobleman Captain Jezal dan Luthar, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules.
Inquisitor Glokta, cripple turned torturer, would like nothing better than to see Jezal come home in a box. But then Glokta hates everyone: cutting treason out of the Union one confession at a time leaves little room for friendship. His latest trail of corpses may lead him right to the rotten heart of government, if he can stay alive long enough to follow it.
Enter the wizard, Bayaz. A bald old man with a terrible temper and a pathetic assistant, he could be the First of the Magi, he could be a spectacular fraud, but whatever he is, he's about to make the lives of Logen, Jezal, and Glotka a whole lot more difficult.
Murderous conspiracies rise to the surface, old scores are ready to be settled, and the line between hero and villain is sharp enough to draw blood.
I have been excited about this series for so long, I have heard so many fantastic things about it! It does sound awesome!

The Forgotten Legion (Forgotten Legion Chronicles #1) by Ben Kane
Romulus and Fabiola are twins, born into slavery after their mother is raped by a drunken nobleman. At thirteen years old they are sold - Romulus to gladiator school, Fabiola into prostitution, where she will catch the eye of one of the most powerful men in Rome. Tarquinius is an Etruscan, a warrior and soothsayer, born enemy of Rome, but doomed to fight for the Republic in the Forgotten Legion. Brennus is a Gaul, his entire family killed by the Romans, and he rises to become one of the most famous and feared gladiators of his day.
The lives of these characters are bound and interwoven in an odyssey which begins in a Rome riven by political corruption and violence, but ends far away, at the very border of the known world, where the tattered remnants of a once-huge Roman army - the Forgotten Legion - will fight against overwhelming odds, and the three men will meet their destiny.
So after reading Christian Cameron and absolutely loving this genre. I have all of Ben Kane’s book on my kindle, to a point, but haven’t had the chance to read them yet. Not sure I could bear to part with them just yet…

Red Dragon (Hannibal Lecter, #1) by Thomas Harris

Special Agent Jack Crawford turns to the one man who can help restart a failed investigation? Will Graham. Graham is the greatest profiler the FBI ever had, but the physical and mental scars of capturing Hannibal Lecter have caused Graham to go into early retirement. Now, Graham must turn to Lecter for help.
Not sure there are any words, I mean it’s Hannibal! Loved the show, loved the film and now I want to love the books!

I really should do this with a few Netgally books
Zoé says
You have to be careful though it affects your rating if you don’t review books! x
likeherdingcatsblog says
Yeah I know and they are all ones I want to read. I’m probably better off limiting new ones and ploughing through them. Luckily a lot of my tours are Netgally ones
Zoé says
That’s good then! Wish it was the same for me ?? I have issues lol
likeherdingcatsblog says
I have over 240 now ?? I’m hoping to plough through from August once I do less tours

Oh my!
Yeah the group has focussed on the Angela Marson books which I don’t have.

You are welcome! It isn’t that these Children of the Earth books are classics or anything, but it just seems to me that if you like historical fiction even a little bit, you really NEED to read at least this first novel in the series. As for the rest of them, one that sounds interesting to me is “An Abundance of Katherines” but I’m kind of balking because its written by a man. Hm… The Jane Costello sound too cute for my taste (but if you like chic-lit…), and I don’t do fantasy stuff. The Forgotten Legion does sound okay, but I’ve personally almost totally had my fill of ancient Rome after reading most of Coleen Macullough’s Masters of Rome series. If you’re going to give me ancient Rome, then give me something without battles. That’s why I really enjoyed The Chef’s Secret – culinary, historical fiction.

I would chuck John Green. Have you read any of his others? I haven’t read Katherines but other bloggers have told me it’s the same kind of thing as Paper Towns (which was a very flawed book).
Zoé says
I read the fault in our stars and from what I have heard that is the best one. So i am thinking maybe leave it on a high
Hayley at RatherTooFondofBooks says
I haven’t read any of these books so can’t be much use this week… I am leaning towards saying just dump them all though! 😉
Zoé says
ha ha love it! Apart from the votes for Red Dragon I may just do that x
