Online investigative journalist Scott King investigates the death of a pop megastar, the subject of multiple accusations of sexual abuse and murder before his untimely demise in a fire … another episode of the startlingly original, award-winning Six Stories series.
When pop megastar Zach Crystal dies in a fire at his remote mansion, his mysterious demise rips open the bitter divide between those who adored his music and his endless charity work, and those who viewed him as a despicable predator, who manipulated and abused young and vulnerable girls.
Online journalist Scott King, whose ‘Six Stories’ podcasts have become an internet sensation, investigates the accusations of sexual abuse and murder that were levelled at Crystal before he died. But as Scott begins to ask questions and rakes over old graves, some startling inconsistencies emerge: Was the fire at Crystal’s remote home really an accident? Whose remains – still unidentified – were found in the ashes? Why was he never officially charged?
Dark, chillingly topical and deeply thought-provoking, Deity is both an explosive thriller and a startling look at how heroes can fall from grace and why we turn a blind eye to even the most heinous of crimes…
Wow wow wow. What a relevant and astounding book. What I loved the most was that ending!!! That was a revelation. I think this might just be my favourite of the lot!
As always an unsolved crime with a supernatural thrill to it. I loved that we had an untouchable. All girls remember having a crush on a pop star (or still do ??) and thinking that they were some sort of god. For some girls, life began and ended with them, and here it is no different. Zach Crystal is a god in their eyes. However, like anything, it’s a harsh fall at the top.
I can not stop devouring this series. They are so well planned, always relevant and always have you doubting whether they are true or not. They also make you doubt whether the supernatural is true too. I love that element!
This was a fascinating topic to cover. So much of this has been covered in the news, especially about people I grew up liking. I love the six different people we are exposed to as they are interviewed. Your mind boggles and you change your mind to how you feel about this man. And that final interview, well it blows everything away. That is all I will say.
I am not quite sure I have anything new I can say about this series. I still think it is a fresh way of telling a story, I adore the supernatural feel (although I would love more) without it feeling over the top. It is an unsolved crime/case and it will have you reaching for google.
I am looking forward to the next case for Scott and I am excited to see how the fallout from this book will transpire. Please keep giving cases to Scott, I don’t want it to ever end.
Until next time xxx
