The brand new enemies-to-lovers romcom for fans of Mhairi McFarlane and The Love Hyphothesis.‘A properly joyful caper of heads vying with hearts. Drummond had me laughing, ‘eeek!’ing and 'aaah'ing, as Posy and Lucas navigate their fake-wedding planning, old animosities and new longings of the heart. A lovely funny uplifting read.’Pernille Hughes
Two high school rivals. Ten years later. A vow not to fall in love . . .
School reunions: the perfect opportunity to catch up with old friends, dazzle old foes, and basically show everyone that your life could not be going better.
But for Lucas O’Rourke and Posy Edwins this isn’t quite the case. Lucas is about to lose his business unless he finds an investor fast, and Posy’s father has cut her off financially, just when she needs to get to Hawaii. And a reunion is the worst moment to come face-to-face with your rival. Ten years ago they hated each other, what could have changed since then?
As tensions rise, Posy comes up with a plan to solve both their problems, all she needs to do is persuade Lucas to go along with it. Trouble is, how do you ask your high school enemy to pretend you’re madly in love when everyone knows you don’t get along? And what happens when that plan involves a wedding, honeymoon and an old school bylaw stating that the school will pay for the entire event…
Surely Posy has thought everything through, hasn’t she?
I am not quite sure how I felt about this book, it had the premise to be something awesome with the enemies-to-lovers trope, although it really doesn’t deserve all the negativity it has got. Posy is entitled and very self-centered, and Lucas is very wet, but at the same time, there is something about these two together that worked for me. The romance was a slow burn and was cute and I must admit near the end when Jasper was telling Posy about Hurricane, it did make me well up a little bit.
I adored the narrator, with all her accents as she gave life to these characters as we watched Lucas and Posy navigate their way through a bylaw which meant their school had to pay for their wedding….this wedding however is very fake and the school knows it too.
I did find it entertaining watching them bumble their way through the planning and keeping their secret and despite being a long audiobook, I felt we didn’t scratch the surface with the characters. I felt like we had room for so much much more characterisation. I wanted to know more about what made these characters tick.
The book flowed easily and I enjoyed the ride. We got the outcome we knew was coming all along and I loved the twist with the epilogue. I thought it was a cute way to end the book.
It’s not a book that will stay with me, but it was a book I enjoyed and so did the mini-me when she listened to it in the car with me. It was a lovely ending and a fab story, I would have just loved a bit more substance.
Until next time xxx
