A couple sleeps peacefully. But they are not alone.
Night after night, a dark figure moves through the quiet suburban streets of Bangor, Maine, entering homes, watching the residents sleep.
When some families notice subtle signs of an intruder’s presence, news spreads quickly, and panic spreads through this peaceful community.
Calls pour into the Bangor police station and Detective Rebecca Ellis grows concerned. No one has seen this intruder, and nothing has been stolen, but when a beloved family pet is found dead, a pattern of escalation becomes apparent.
Ellis’s worst fears are realized when she's called out to a murder. It seems the intruder has graduated from stalking to killing.
Desperate to prevent another murder, Ellis finds herself caught in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with a relentless enemy.
Can she catch the killer before another innocent victim dies? Or will she herself fall prey to the silent prowler who leaves no trace?
Well, we are back with the team and the fallouts just keep happening! I can’t believe the ending of this one!! Eeek!!
The intruder storyline was CREEPY as hell! I mean someone is breaking into people’s houses, rearranging their belongings…shudder at the thought. It all seems harmless, if awful, at the start, but quickly escalates and it hits the fan!
I love being with this crew, I love the dynamics. Although the team is fractured after the last book, Euan is on leave and Fletch’s feeling some guilt at what she did, adding an extra layer to the plot. Then we have the Bevin storyline ready to explode, so much is going on and Becca is just trying to keep it together and solve the case.
This was an emotional case, and we are taken on that journey of heartbreak, frustration and anxiety, as we delve deeper into the motive behind it all. But is it the full story? Well, all I can say is that Robin took me on a whole rollercoaster of emotions as I worked out with the team what was happening. The scenes were tension-filled, and there was anticipation as we were reaching the end. I had an inkling as to who the intruder was, and I was pleased to see I was right, but I was sad too because the tale was not something I wanted to read about.
Throughout the series, Mahle has developed a cast of compelling characters that readers have come to love and root for. Becca, in particular, shines as a strong and determined protagonist, navigating personal and professional challenges with resilience and integrity.
I do love this series and I can’t wait for the next book and to see what is next for Becca and her team!
Until the next time xxx
