It’s always a tricky time when you are friends with an author and you read their book. The fear sets in, what if I don’t like the book? Will I be able to tell them? Could I even speak to them again? But then you have the flip side… What if you love it? Well, that’s easy!! And then you have another side, what if the book is so dark, so twisted and you begin to worry about their state of mind and the darkness within them??
THAT!!!!!
That is where I am with this book! I loved Blind House and once I read that I knew I would be a fan for life and we built a nice friendship from it. But this book…wow…..wow…WOW
Now I will start off and say, I bought this book. I have not been influenced in any way. So this review is 100% real.
So back to my WOW! It wasn’t until near the end I fully comprehended the twist that was about to befall me. I had inklings, as you do, nothing fully form, in fact, I suspected the wrong people! But jeez, the mind of both the characters and Ms Brooke is dark and messy! I wouldn’t want to be stuck in a locked room for sure, not sure who would make it out alive!!
I found this book to be so refreshing and it also gave me a new light on working in a prison. I had no idea of someone sitting there sifting through emails and posts but kinda always knew something was done. So I found it so interesting and also a little exciting. Although it’s probably boring most of the time, you could kind of understand Kate’s obsession with Anna West!
Balancing the horrific of the prison, to a fracture homelife and the many red herrings that were woven so tightly and cleverly that you didn’t see the rug being pulled from under you until it was too late. Thank god I was lying down!
I just loved everything about this book!! I do have one question, which I can’t list here, so I asked the lovely author and got my answer. Am I happy about it? Can’t tell you that 😉 ( Spoiler alert, I’m over the moon!!)
This is definitely a fantastic book and one that needs to be read. The twists, turns and red herrings, plus the setting make this such an enthralling ride. At times I was reading so fast, I held my breath with the fear and shock of what I had just read.
One of my top books of the year and no I’m not being biased. It is THAT good!!
Until the next time xxx
