As it says on the tin, today I am going to talk about the NG shelf! Not sure if I am talking to myself or not but I will make sure I am seriously accountable for everything now. Things need to change!
Like 99% of the newbie bloggers when you discover NG you are like a kid in a sweet shop and you click and click and click, without a second thought…well, I did… It became an addiction in ways and definitely a whole lot of FOMO. This was me starting out 6 years ago…if that wasn’t you, I absolutely love and respect how you did that! If you were a me, you’re my people!
Please don’t think my flippant tons is me laughing at this all, if anything I’m laughing at my stupidity. So last year I was ploughing through any NG I could find on audiobook at my library and I managed a lot more than I expected. I have also been buying the audiobook from Audible and if it’s on KU, reading it there. Anything to make sure the authors get something from my bad behaviour!!
So my plan!! I copied every single book of NG into a spreadsheet… 27 pages, and made a master list!
Book Total | |
---|---|
Starting figure as at 1st Jan 2023 | 577 |
Jan Acquired | 1 |
Total to read on Net Galley as at 1st Jan 2023 | 578 |
Starting Ratio as of 1st Jan 2023 | 34% |
Target ratio by 31st December 2023 | 40% |
Read and reviewed total to achieve 40% | 350 books |
Current read and reviewed total | 298 books |
Deficit | 52 books to be read in 2023 |
So not too many ah!
So how has my January turned out?
January acquired = 1 book
I couldn’t resist this as it’s Louise! Publication Day is 27th April and will be included in my planned April reading!
Reviews posted on Net Galley = 8 books
The Girl in the Pink Shoes classes itself as 2 as I reviewed the eARC and Audiobook!
My Ratio as at 31st January is 35%
Woohoo, I went up 1%!!!!!!!!
I have 570 in my active list to read, (3 in ‘Archived, Not Downloaded’ and 2 ‘Will not Give Feedback’ – this will change as I will review them now! – these aren’t included in my totals above)
So my current read towards NG is
My planned February clearance will be these 6. I didn’t manage all my January ones, so they will be looked at again.
I picked these books as they were all published in February. Some of these are in audio at the library books and some of these are a challenge I have set myself, so will either buy these or read on KU if possible.
Have you read any of these?
Well, I will be back next month with an update and more accountability!
Until next time xxx

Been there done that and still have to read and review them. I’ve thought about deleting my account so many times because of the backlog, but haven’t yet! xx
Zoé says
Oh wow! That would be brave! I have just decided it’s about time I took ownership of it. LOL. I hid my head in the sand too much. xx

Great post Zoé. I was just rejected for The Girl in the Pink Shoes, and it sounds great. I was on the blog tour for A Season for Love. I am doing less organized blog tours forawhile in favour of getting my NG shelf ratio up. What do you think of the NG Shelf app?

I was on the tour for The Girl in the Pink Shoes and A Season for Love. You know where I am when you want to come back for tours LOL.
I only use it for audiobooks not read a book off there yet and it doesn’t show my entire shelves either, which is odd. What do you think of it?

That amount… is slightly nauseating 😳😂 Good luck and happy reading!
