It was pretty intense last week as there were clear winners on who to kick out but not many votes on who to keep, so I was forced to make a decision….dun dun dunnnnnnnnn
So I broke the rules! I ditched the clear one everyone said but I just could not bring myself to ditch Hilary Mantel as it is the Tudors! Plus I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of the other series which I probably have no time to read…..So maybe this week I will only keep 2 books – oooooooohhhh
A bit of a variety for you this week!
Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter (Grant County #1)
Blurb
The first Grant County novel, from the No. 1 Bestseller.
The sleepy town of Heartsdale, Georgia, is jolted into panic when Sara Linton, paediatrician and medical examiner, finds Sibyl Adams dead in the local diner. As well as being viciously raped, Sibyl has been cut: two deep knife wounds form a lethal cross over her stomach. But it’s only once Sara starts to perform the post-mortem that the full extent of the killer’s brutality becomes clear.
Police chief Jeffrey Tolliver – Sara’s ex-husband – is in charge of the investigation, and when a second victim is found, crucified, only a few days later, both Jeffrey and Sara have to face the fact that Sibyl’s murder wasn’t a one-off attack. What they’re dealing with is a seasoned sexual predator. A violent serial killer…
Back to be a broken record, this book is one that I have started and loved, but I cannot remember where I am in the series. I love this author so I am not sure that I can bear to kick this one to the curb!

Bridget Jone’s Diary by Helen Fielding (Bridget Jones #1)
Blurb
Meet Bridget Jones—a 30-something Singleton who is certain she would have all the answers if she could:
a. lose 7 pounds
b. stop smoking
c. develop Inner Poise
“123 lbs. (how is it possible to put on 4 pounds in the middle of the night? Could flesh have somehow solidified becoming denser and heavier? Repulsive, horrifying notion), alcohol units 4 (excellent), cigarettes 21 (poor but will give up totally tomorrow), number of correct lottery numbers 2 (better, but nevertheless useless)…”
Bridget Jones’ Diary is the devastatingly self-aware, laugh-out-loud daily chronicle of Bridget’s permanent, doomed quest for self-improvement — a year in which she resolves to: reduce the circumference of each thigh by 1.5 inches, visit the gym three times a week not just to buy a sandwich, form a functional relationship with a responsible adult, and learn to program the VCR.
Over the course of the year, Bridget loses a total of 72 pounds but gains a total of 74. She remains, however, optimistic. Through it all, Bridget will have you helpless with laughter, and — like millions of readers the world round — you’ll find yourself shouting, “Bridget Jones is me!”
I have watched the films but not the last one, do I need to read the series too? Only you can decide

The Lady of The Rivers by Philippa Gregory (The Plantagenet and Tudor Novels #1)
Blurb
Jacquetta, daughter of the Count of Luxembourg and kinswoman to half the royalty of Europe, was married to the great Englishman John, Duke of Bedford, uncle to Henry VI. Widowed at the age of 19, she took the extraordinary risk of marrying a gentleman of her household for
This is not being removed from my list, sorry no way, nada!

Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson
Blurb
Beautifully captures the joys of a new family as it builds to an overwhelmingly moving climax. This is an unforgettable love story, at once heartbreaking and full of hope.
James Patterson has written a love story!–a powerfully moving and suspenseful novel about families, loss, new love, and hope.
Katie Wilkinson has found her perfect man at last. He’s a writer, a house painter, an original thinker–everything she’s imagined she wanted in a partner. But one day, without explanation, he disappears from her life, leaving behind only a diary for her to read.
This diary is a love letter written by a new mother named Suzanne for her baby son, Nicholas. In it she pours out her heart about how she and the boy’s father met, about her hopes for marriage and family, and about the unparalleled joy that having a baby has brought into her life. As Katie reads this touching document, it becomes clear that the lover who has just left her is the husband and father in this young family. She reads on, filled with terror and hope, as she struggles to understand what has happened–and whether her new love has a prayer of surviving.
Written with James Patterson’s perfect pitch for emotion and suspense, Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas captures beautifully the joys of a new family as it builds to an overwhelmingly moving climax. This is an unforgettable love story, at once heartbreaking and full of hope.
James Patterson writes a love story!? Colour me intrigued and it seems that this rather loved on Goodreads too!

The Dangerous Days of Daniel X by James Patterson (Daniel X #1)
Blurb
He was born with great power
The greatest superpower of all isn’t to be part spider, part man, or to cast magic spells–the greatest power is the power to create.
Daniel X has that power.
And a deadly secret
Daniel’s secret abilities – like being able to manipulate objects and animals with his mind or to recreate himself in any shape he chooses – have helped him survive. But Daniel doesn’t have a normal life. He is the protector of the earth, the Alien Hunter, with a mission beyond anyone’s imagining.
Now the fate of the world rests on Daniel X
From the day that his parents were brutally murdered before his very eyes, Daniel has used his unique gifts to hunt down their assassin. Finally, with the help of The List, bequeathed to him in his parents’ dying breath, he is closing in on the killer.
Now, on his own, he vows to take on his father’s mission – and to take vengeance in the process.
Another Patterson and another series. What do we think of this?

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
Blurb
Big Little Lies follows three women, each at a crossroads:
Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She’s funny and biting, passionate, she remembers everything and forgives no one. Her ex-husband and his yogi new wife have moved into her beloved beachside community, and their daughter is in the same kindergarten class as Madeline’s youngest (how is this possible?). And to top it all off, Madeline’s teenage daughter seems to be choosing Madeline’s ex-husband over her. (How. Is. This. Possible?).
Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare. While she may seem a bit flustered at times, who wouldn’t be, with those rambunctious twin boys? Now that the boys are starting school, Celeste and her husband look set to become the king and queen of the school parent body. But royalty often comes at a price, and Celeste is grappling with how much more she is willing to pay.
New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for the nanny. Jane is sad beyond her years and harbors secret doubts about her son. But why? While Madeline and Celeste soon take Jane under their wing, none of them realizes how the arrival of Jane and her inscrutable little boy will affect them all.
Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the dangerous little lies we tell ourselves just to survive.

I love hearing your thoughts every week, so thank you so much to everyone who helps me! You are all epic!
Until next time xxx
Kelly says
I’d keep the Slaughter and lose Bridget Jones and Big Little Lies but that’s because (unpopular opinion alert) I don’t like Moriarty’s books *hides*
Zoé says
I agree with Bridget. I have never read her books so think I will be hiding with you! Did enjoy the show though! Lol
Kelly says
The show was brilliant! But then it had Alexander, how could it be anything but brilliant ? Moriarty always lets me down and so I’ve decided not to read any more of her books. There’s always this big build-up… to nothing. And the book ends and I’m like wait what, hundreds of pages to come to THIS conclusion?! They’re not bad, they’re just okay and there are so many great books out there to read instead ?
Zoé says
Oh Alexander ?? oh really! That’s interesting to know…maybe I will stick with the show
Short Book and Scribes says
To be honest, if I know the short from TV or film I don’t get much from reading the book afterwards. You know what’s going to happen! So much as I loved Bridget and Big Little Lies I would say to get rid of those.
Zoé says
Ha ha defo agree with Bridget think the time has pass on them
nickimags @ The Secret Library Book Blog says

Davida Chazan says
I would love to read Big Little Lies, but I did see the TV series and WOW. As for Bridget Jones Diary – it is a fun read, and one example of a book whose movie is almost as good as the book, so if you saw that… As for Phillipa Gregory, I’ve never been tempted to read any of her books, I’m afraid, and this one doesn’t tempt me either. Patterson – well, he’s Patterson, isn’t he! The idea of a love story by him… that’s very tempting since his regular genre isn’t my thing.
Zoé says
Ah thanks for this ! Yeah Patterson changing genre is interesting. I watched BLL and loved it! X
Janel says
I’d keep Slaughter and Moriarty and ditch the rest?
Zoé says
That seems to be the popular choice! Thanks lovely xx
