Skulduggery and Valkyrie are facing a new enemy: Baron Vengeous, who is determined to bring back the terrifying Faceless Ones and is crafting an army of evil to help him. Added to that, Vengeous is about to enlist a new ally (if he can raise it from the dead): the horrible Grotesquery, a very unlikable monster of legend.
Once Vengeous is on the loose, dead bodies and vampires start showing up all over Ireland. Now pretty much everybody is out to kill Valkyrie, and the daring detective duo faces its biggest challenge yet.
But what if the greatest threat to Valkyrie is just a little closer to home?

I did enjoy this. I love the production of the Skulduggery books on audiobooks, I love the sound effects. I absolutely 110% love, love the guy that narrates him. I think he is absolutely fantastic. He absolutely brings Skulduggery and Valkyrie to life
The only problem I had with this book is I wasn’t as engaged in this book as I was with the first one. But that’s more that’s me, that’s not the book, for some reason, I just didn’t get into it.
I love the whole introduction of the vampires. I mean, who doesn’t love a good old vampire? They are a lot different from the ones we know. I love we’ve got Baron Vengeous, who wants to bring back a whole terrifying new species of people to take on the world basically. They were just grotesque and horrifying to read about.
These books do make me laugh. I love how everything the way it’s written. It is a fantastic series and it’s something I am on board with all the way through. I mean, I’m on book two. I’m looking forward to listening to book three because I’m sorry, I can’t read these. I have to listen to the narrator and the way he personifies Skulduggery, something I would not have gotten the same experience of if I read them.
This feels to me like a production of people doing the story rather than one. The narrator really brings these books to life. As I say I do think these books are entertaining. I love the introductions of different species of people. I love the imagination of Landy and I think that ending, Jesus, what a cliffhanger. Not gonna lie. I need to know what happens next. The whole twists and turns in the book were fab.
These books actually remind me of the Darren Shan series Cirque du freak, which I adored. I read them at university and I blitzed them in a day. I hated the fact I used to have to wait however long for the next one to come out. So I’m kind of glad that I’ve started these late because I know I’ve got 13 books to catch up on. They are my guilty pleasure at the minute and I really can’t wait to get into the Faceless Ones, which is the next book, which is going to be absolutely brilliant because it’ll be interesting to see where they take it, especially after, like I say, that ending and knowing what we know about Skulduggery, it’s going to be interesting
Until the next time xxx
