She thought he’d come to save her. She was wrong.
Deborah Jenkins pulls her coat around her as she sets out on her short walk home in the pouring rain. But she never makes it home that night. And she is never seen again …
Four years later, an abandoned baby girl is found wrapped in dirty rags on a doorstep. An anonymous phone call urges the police to run a DNA test on the baby. But nobody is prepared for the results.
The newborn belongs to Deborah. She’s still alive.
If you love Lisa Gardner, Patricia Gibney and Robert Bryndza, you’ll love this jaw-dropping new crime thriller from Carla Kovach. The Next Girl will keep you guessing until the very last page.
I am so glad to finally have gone back to the beginning with this series! I have read a couple out of order, so to go back to where it all began is just pure bliss.
I have to say, I am a HUGE fan! I thought everything worked perfectly and I loved how flawed Gina was. Just little things about this book made me smile. It made it all feel the more real. Things like Gina’s personal conflict and Briggs whooping when they solved the case. Just loved it.
I had to get my mini-me in an extended shower just so I could get through the last bit. I sat and blitzed the audiobook for about 6 hours today, and then read the last 5% as I didn’t want to have to wait until the next day. I had to know what was going on, can you tell I was addicted to it!
Apart from not obviously liking the bad guy, I DID NOT like one bit was Hannah, Gina’s daughter. What an offensive person she was. I appreciate she doesn’t know the whole story of Gina but girl THAT IS YOUR MUM! Show some goddamn respect! I really wanted to give her a slap, so I hope she bucks her ideas up!
Anyhoo, I love, with any detective series, seeing all sides of the story. The personal and the working life. Gina has such great camaraderie with her team, which helps when her personal life seems so sparse…well apart from one person who brings some rosy cheeks to her face. I cant wait to see how this all plays out.
I really can’t wait to get to the next book! A strong and exciting start to a well-established series indeed! I can see why it is raved about.
Until next time xxx
