My son has been taken.
And I’ve been given a choice…
Kill a patient on the operating table.
Or never see him again.
The man lies on the table in front of me.
As a surgeon, it’s my job to save him.
As a mother, I know I must kill him.
You might think that I’m a monster.
But there really is only one choice.
I must get away with murder.Or I will never see my son again.
I’VE SAVED MANY LIVES.
WOULD YOU TRUST ME WITH YOURS?
Full disclosure here, I forgot my stop was coming up, thought it was next week and spiralled into a panic! So I bought the audiobook and flicked between reading and listening to the book…I was OBSESSED!
I mean OH MY DAYS! WHAT A BOOK!!
I mean, wowzers! I need time to collect my thoughts here. This book…..I mean the moral dilemmas alone were huge!! The three women in this story, all with their own baggage, all with a need for something more. I just can’t compute right now, I am still blown away by this, especially with the ending! Jeez, that was another Oh my days moment! It was cold and chilling! This entire book was dark, delicious, chilling, and shocking. I mean I could go on here!
To be put in the situation of Anna, gosh! It was a toughie for sure! 20% in the book and the proverbial shit is hitting the fan, and I just couldn’t guess how the next 80% would play out. I mean surely the book was done…..NO!! It was intense and fraught, the extremities that Anne and Margot go through to get to the end game put me on edge. This is a page-turner in every sense of the word. I seriously can’t even begin to write a coherent review, it’s just a brain dump!
Everybody is flawed, the characters are not all likeable, they shock you but they keep you turning the pages to rush to the end. I loved the fact they are flawed, I felt that they had redeemable features but ultimately greed and self-preservation got in the way.
The narrators of the audiobook did a superb job! You had the coldness with Anna, the tenacious Rachel and the sneaky Margot. They were depicted perfectly and I loved how the other narrators voiced the various women. So how the narrator of Margot, when voiced Anna’s side of the conversation, you really got the sense of feeling of her coldness and yet when she is being voiced she doesn’t sound that way. They all did it and I loved seeing it, it’s all about the points of view and I found it fascinating and fun and it reminded me of the show The Affair, where you see the same scene from different points of view and it is never the same!
I am just floored by this book and I have to say it’s one of my favourites, if not my favourite of the year! It’s my first by Jack but I have his others books, so now to get caught up and maybe at some point find something coherent to say!
Just simply wow!
Until next time xxx
